After the initial NHBC inspection, we were treated to a visit by Robin Knevitt , Product specialist from Ayton products of Norfolk , who manufactured our drive. He came down along with my good friend Mr Redfern, from Fairview. They inspected the drive, crumbling and pock marked since week 2 from being laid. Eventually the conclusion is that the drive is allowed to be crumbling, that we are not helping by not sweeping ( the non maintenance drive) and that they feel it is fit for purpose and no further work needs to be done. I asked for other sites where this has been laid and have been given 2 sites nearby , both of which appear to be pedestrian areas. We had the ground workers tell us this before , ie that this material is not suitable for cars and is generally put down on pedestrian areas. I will visit the other sites and take pictures because this matter is far from closed. I also intend to set up a web page dedicated to the drive, a little over the top you say? Well quite honestly, Ayton products should be ashamed that they feel that the appearance of my drive is suitable for the type of home that has been sold . It is breaking up, large areas are crumbling and the appearance is appalling! I now know not to really listen to most of what I am told because it is clear that no one will take responsibility for the poor quality of workmanship and materials and will try to fob us off continuously . Unfortunately , despite initially being told by the NHBC that a drive should not crumble, they have agreed with the builder and the report from the manufacturer and advised nothing else needs to be done. This is disappointing. I will have to take that up as well, with the NHBC.
On another note, our front door has finally been changed so the mastic repaired one is going back. Our bay window finally has been sealed to the elements , another great job by BMS and especially Mark the carpenter. When you see the quality of the repairs , it makes you realise how poor the original work was.
We are waiting on our cracked floor to be repaired ( and my neighbours has cracked exactly in the same way ) , our stairs to be rebuilt and the bath to be levelled. Having insisted that the tiles were no longer available, suddenly Fairview have found that they are available and will proceed with the work as advised by the NHBC……..they are full of surprises.
