A confusing letter or just me being slow?

We’ve received a letter from Laing stating that they would normally give us a 28 day letter to completion, but are unable to now..

… due to the council dragging their foot with the license for supplying the mains or something to that effect. I had to re-read the letter a couple of times to try to get what Laing was trying to say. They have stated that they are still trying to complete as soon as possible so we can move in for Christmas.

So in effect, we’re not going to be given 28 days notice, or rather the letter is acting as the 28 days letter but not actually giving us 28 days notice. (huh??) Am I to take it as it could be less than 28 days? Surely not. I take it to mean it’s likely to take more than 28 days. What it boils down to is they can’t give us a definite date for completion yet.

Oh well, time to go sort out the mortgage then.

  1. Hi Sharyn, found this blog thru New Build Inspections. I am considering a new build flat from Bryant in Salisbury.

I was interested in a post you made about timber frame construction and noise pollution/sound proofing. Did you find out anything about this and what Laing were doing to minimise noise.
    Thanks

  2. Hi Gary, well Laing builds to building regulations criteria which has a minimum on noise ‘pollution’.

They put in the required level of insulation which protects against noise transfer and apparently if they do that, then the NHBC inspector won’t need to test the noise level. If they don’t, then the inspector is supposed to test it using some vibrating machine. He’ll go to the next apartment and the one above/ below to check out if he can hear the machine. If he can, then he won’t pass the building for NHBC guarantee. I mean, this is really hearsay from Laing themselves and assumes NHBC really are that conscientious about it.

I would ask the developer of your building about it, what they are doing as to noise pollution. Maybe you could tell me if they say the same thing.
