Is it really fair??

When Laing wrote to tell us that they are pushing back completion by 3
months until next spring, we were not offered any compensation or anything for the inconvenience.

I can imagine most people renting would have had to negotiate an extension to their rental period or look for an alternative place to rent for the short 3 months. Then they turn round to tell us that
they think they are now able complete in Dec time, but are not able to say for sure yet. Non-committal as always. On and on the story goes..

Now that they are able to serve notice on the 9 Dec, they’ve taken it upon themselves to decide that no flexibility can be offered for completion in January instead of 23 Dec, a day before Christmas Eve. Mind you, the notice is only 14 days instead of the normal 28 days.

When we went to visit the site earlier (we brought our dad and sis), they had clearly told us, because of their not being able to say for sure, Laing was quite happy to delay completion until January as so many people were going to be moving the day before they close for Christmas. Obviously, the sales people did not have at the forefront of their minds that the company’s year end was fast approaching and that accounts look better if money comes in before that date.

Now we’re told that their Legal Dept has been instructed that if we don’t complete on the said date, then they’ll seek to exercise their rights i.e. charge us interest for every day (that they are closed for Christmas apparently has no bearing!) that it does not complete.
