When Laing wrote to tell us that they are pushing back completion by 3
months until next spring, we were not offered any compensation or anything for the inconvenience.

I can imagine most people renting would have had to negotiate an extension to their rental period or look for an alternative place to rent for the short 3 months. Then they turn round to tell us that
they think they are now able complete in Dec time, but are not able to say for sure yet. Non-committal as always. On and on the story goes..

Now that they are able to serve notice on the 9 Dec, they’ve taken it upon themselves to decide that no flexibility can be offered for completion in January instead of 23 Dec, a day before Christmas Eve. Mind you, the notice is only 14 days instead of the normal 28 days.

When we went to visit the site earlier (we brought our dad and sis), they had clearly told us, because of their not being able to say for sure, Laing was quite happy to delay completion until January as so many people were going to be moving the day before they close for Christmas. Obviously, the sales people did not have at the forefront of their minds that the company’s year end was fast approaching and that accounts look better if money comes in before that date.

Now we’re told that their Legal Dept has been instructed that if we don’t complete on the said date, then they’ll seek to exercise their rights i.e. charge us interest for every day (that they are closed for Christmas apparently has no bearing!) that it does not complete.

Honestly, it’s getting really tough blogging when nothing is happening. Been preoccupied with wedding plans, so haven’t really devoted time to thinking about the house much. Not a peep from the developers on current state of play. We were promised a phone call when the show apartment was ready to be viewed. No call can only mean either it’s not ready or that we’re low on their list of priorities now that we’ve exchanged. They are probably busy trying to sell the other plots on site. Though how they’ll manage to do that without a show home is beyond me!

*sigh* more waiting and waiting and yet more waiting.

*sigh*.. a long, long wait ahead for us.. It’s been another week and a bit, still no news re the show home. I don’t think it’ll be for another 2 weeks or more. It’s been raining the whole of the week.. wonder if that will impact on progress of work.

Last we were there, the site wasn’t even covered over with waterproof sheets. Kinda worrying considering it’s a timber structure. Will it cause problems later on if it’s not dried out properly before final work is completed? I suppose we have to trust them to know what they’re doing.

It’s come to my attention that timber-structure buildings suffer from noise ‘pollution’. Am going to try to see what soundproofing materials they will be using. Will not be nice always being able to hear people walking overhead, or even having complaints from people below or even from the next apartment. Hmm.. more research needed.. what are regulations with regards to adequate soundproofing if any?

Well, hopefully will have more news next week..
