A confusing letter or just me being slow?

We’ve received a letter from Laing stating that they would normally give us a 28 day letter to completion, but are unable to now..

… due to the council dragging their foot with the license for supplying the mains or something to that effect. I had to re-read the letter a couple of times to try to get what Laing was trying to say. They have stated that they are still trying to complete as soon as possible so we can move in for Christmas.

So in effect, we’re not going to be given 28 days notice, or rather the letter is acting as the 28 days letter but not actually giving us 28 days notice. (huh??) Am I to take it as it could be less than 28 days? Surely not. I take it to mean it’s likely to take more than 28 days. What it boils down to is they can’t give us a definite date for completion yet.

Oh well, time to go sort out the mortgage then.

After almost a year of house-hunting and having 3 prospective purchases fall through, we’ve decided to buy a new built apartment instead with Laing Homes, well it was more on impulse and frustration really. Though there’s less chances of structural defects and everything will be brand new, we thought. *fingers crossed* We’ve just exchanged contracts last week even though the only thing built so far are the foundations. After hearing so many horror stories about new builds post reservation, we’ve been advised to get a snagging inspection done before completion. Laing has been pretty good so far. A little slow with legal enquiries, but still not bad!
