We had the home demonstration on Wednesday and it went pretty well. The crack near the patio doors has been sufficeintly filled in, and I am happy with the explanation of its cause. There were a few minor snags that I pointed out, and I was told they would be fixed before we move in, which would be desirable.

On the whole, there weren’t many problems, but i’m no expert – I’ll leave the detailed scrutiny to the inspector who is coming next Thursday. The problem Nik had with the handles on the drawers coming off in the kitchen doesn’t seem to be there, and we have got the same units as he had.

I hear that knowledge of this blog has spread and a few of the builders have seen it – all i can say is good job so far lads, but don’t let me down at the last hurdle! And no christening of the toilets – trust me I will know!

Crest say this is just where the patio doors were put in after the original structure was compeleted, and it is perfectly normal…. I’m not so sure. I wonder if this is a snag?

I phoned up crest last week to see if they could give me a few measurements for the kitchen and bathrooms, as the documentation we have only gives the physical room size, not the actual space you have available. For example, we want to tile the kitchen floor, but only have the full size measurements, when we would need to take into account the kitchen units, as obviously we cannot tile underneath them!

So I phoned crest and they suggested we come in and have another look, which was nice as I thought they had to stick rigidly to the 3 planned visits!

So we went in on Sunday and measured everything we could think of. We were also much happier with the size this time, it looked better now most of it has been painted.

They also gave us a provisional move in date of the last week of September, which its pretty exciting, just over a month to go!

Our garage was still white, but next doors was black, so I think ours will be panited that colour as well. The Crest lady who accompanied us said that she had showed someone around the development and they had tried to buy our house! They just wouldn’t take no for an answer, but eventually got the message that it was already sold….

We had a house visit yesterday, where we were shown how things were going. It all looks impressive, so much progress has been made since our first visit in June!

However I was disappointed with the bedroom 1 size, they list it as 4.74m x 2.60m, but in reality it is really 2.6 x 2.6 because of the way the ensuite and built-in wardrobe take up space. They had measured it from the furthest point inside the wardrobe to get the 4.74m, which I suppose is fair enough. But I was a little disappointed when I saw the room. Not that it really matters – we are only going to be in there at night time! I guess it is easy to worry because at the moment we both live with Lucy’s parents and only have her room as our own space – that will change when we have a whole house to ourselves…

I mentioned the fact I want a snagging inspection done by a professional, which didn’t go down incredibly well, but they have agreed to it, which is good. The build completion date is now early september, we have the snag visit in mid September and should be able to move in by the end of that month. Picture to follow.
