Gave the sales office a call to check up on the progress yesterday. After a bit of chasing around they came back to me and confirmed that the house will be inspected on Friday (17th) for NHBC sign off. They hope to serve our ten-day notice on either Friday or Monday depending on when they get the inspection completed.

We have been popping over to the site quite frequently and to be honest they appear to have done a reasonable job from the outside. It’s quite strange actually as I keep spotting minor issues with other houses on the development but the only thing that I can spot on our house is the missing outside tap and a couple of holes that need sorting under the soffits.

We have very bravely decided to snag the property ourselves. I’m an engineer by trade and tend to be bit of a fussy git at the best of times. Coupled with a reasonable grasp of the trades and a couple of refurbs under our belt I’m hoping that I should pick up a majority of the problems.

Hopefully I’ll be back with a fairly short snagging list and a moving date in a few days………

Miracles do happen – DWH phone us back on Monday as promised. They have given us an estimated legal completion date of 30th Nov. They commented that they were a bit behind at the moment but were confident that they will be O.K for the end of the month. I popped down to the site today (4/11) and was surprised to see that they have cracked on a fair bit in a week. The kitchen is in, the boiler’s been fitted and radiators are going up. The walls have all received at least one coat of paint and the sparkies have also been fairly busy from what I can see through the windows. They have started turfing and generally tidying up around the property also.

All in all things look fairly promising at the moment.

Well we finally got an update on the house progress. Albeit no thanks to DWH. Following several promises from the sales office to ‘Definitely get back to us the next day’ we went down to the sales office and asked to view our property on the 28/10. They had no choice as that area of the site had now been opened up due to people moving into surrounding houses. We were pleasantly surprised to see that 90% of the plastering was finished and that some reasonable progress had been made. I was quite narky with the sales staff as I can’t understand why they could not have just bothered to call me back to let me know what I had to go and find for myself. They also promised to call on Monday to give us an estimated completion date (Won’t hold my breath though….).

Phoned the site on Saturday (21st) to get an update on the build stage. I had phoned the previous weekend but they seemed evasive and suggested I call later in the week. I got the brush off again and they promised that they would diary a call on the Monday (23rd) to let me know how things were going. Guess what – No call.

To be honest it’s not the fact that we are desperate to get in we would just like an update on how things are progressing. DWH had stated that when they get to plastering they would have a much clearer idea on a completion date. A couple of weeks back the windows were in and all of the partitioning was in place so I assumed it was ready for first fix.

When we were reserving our plot the sales office were more than able to tell us exactly what point the build stage was at when we popped in to add to the list. Now they have our money I’m getting the impression that we are just another punter and they’ll call us when they’re good and ready. Personally I’d expect a better level of service when buying a £15k car let alone a £270K+ house.
